Details of Staff in the Home

The Home has an effective recruitment/ selection procedure for te ppointment of appropriately trained and qualified staff competent to care for the service users using the guidance from the Department of Healthe and in accordance with Regulation 21 of the Health and Socail Care act 2008.
All staff are subject to:
1- Enhanced level clearance of Criminal Records Disclosure.
2- Personal verification of Identity.
3- Personal interviews and two references from previous employers.
4- Verification of qualifications and Registration with NMC.
5- Declaration of physical and mental fitness.
6- Work permit status (if Applicable)

The Home employs Registered Nurses both RGN's and RMN's, Care Assistants, Cooks,  House keepers, Full time Handyman and a part time qualified Occupational Therapiest. The Homes staff are selected for their qualities of reliability, integrity, skill, friendliness and professionalism.

All staff has a tailor made induction/ in-house training programme by experiecned qualified senior staff in the following critical subject:

Core Principles of dementia care

Confidentiality

The rights of Service Users

Health and Safety including Fire Regulations

Food Hygiene and Safety

Personal Care/ Key worker systems

Role and Responsibilities

Manual Handling 

SOVA/ Deprivation of liberty safeguards

Accidents/ Complaint Procedures

Policies/ Procedures

All new staff will complete an induction that follows the TOPSS guidlines. The home will ensure that all Care Assistants hold or achieve an NVQ level 2/3 in Care. All new members of staff must train to achieve this level of qualification within twelve months of appointment. We are an approved training centre for Overseas Nursing Programme in conjunction with Northampton University and Nursing &Midwifery COuncil and provide placements for students from Northampton University and local colleges.

The Home also sends all staff on external training courses for such topics as Food Hygiene, Lifting and Handling, Care of the Elderly, First Aid, Medication management, Care of Dementia Patients. The provision of staff accomodation for staff allows us to maintain staffing levels at all times especially in severe weather conditions, outbreaks of infection to service users and staff sickness . We also have agreement with nursing agencies for emergency staffing requirements. We also have a number of staff, both Carers and Qualified staff on out Nurse Bank who can be rostered to cover any short term staffing difficulty arising. Regular staff briefing is held at various times and when necessary staff mettings are held to improve communication and maximise our staff contribution to achieve our goals.
