Privacy, Dignity and rights

Privacy and Dignity

Staff are trained to strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality, privacy and comfort of all Service Users within a safe and caring atmosphere and in so doing will be sensitive to the Service Users ever changing needs. All mail received will be uninterrupted and is given to the resident or next of kin. Residents are able to use the Pay phone in the Home or the home's phone in private and in some circumstances will also have access to a mobile phone. Service Users may choose to spend their time in their rooms at any time and may have their meals provided this is safe. Staff will respectand uphold their right to privacy.
Occasionally due to changing needs of Service Users or to meet our service needs and priorities, it may be necessary to move service users to an alternative room on a temporary or permanent basis to provide safe a high level of intervention and supervision to an identified service user. In such circumstances, consultation will make with the service user/s, their relatives/ Advocate/ Care Manager and Genreal Practitioner. Failing all discussions, the Registered Manager will contact the local Care Management team for advice before any formal notice of changes be made unless in an emergency situation. In some circumstances, due to the complexity of needs and the level of nursing and/or medical intervention which cnnot be net in the Home, alternative temporary or permanent placement may be considered in consultation with the General Practitioner, Care Manager and Relatives.

Smoking and Alcohol

The Home recognised the smoking regulation in public places and despite the exemptions that apply; we operate a no smoking policy for staff/ visitors. However, some residents do smoke and where the resident has full capacity, they may smoke in the individual rooms where heat detectors have been fitted and are closely monitored or in the designated smoking room or may smoke outside the home. Other residents with limited capacity an who require supervision have access to the designated smoking room or weather permitting has access to the garden areas outside the home. This policy has been agreed by the Environmental Health Dept of Daventry District Council and the Care Quality Commission.

With Regard to alcohol, we do not encourage alcoholic drinks except for special occasions; even then, this is only allowed in small quantities of alcohol free/ low alcoholdrinks provided it does not interfere with treatment and Health. It is recognised that some residents may wish to have a small amount of low alcohol drinks as a 'night cap' and this will be supervised.

Religion/worship/attendance at religious services

Service Users may attend religious services either within or outside the Home, as they so desire. If services are outside the Home, the Service User should, if necessary and where possible, arrange for transport and accompanied with friends or relatives. In the event of this not being possible, care staff may accompany Service Users on specific occassions if staffing levels permit.
Monthly service by the local vicar is held for all service users of all denominations.
Service Users have the right to meet Clergy of their chosen denomination at any time. If required, a private room will be made available for such meetings.
